Most tarot decks try to soothe. This one aims to haunt.
Bobby Alexander’s new Kickstarter campaign introduces a full 78-card tarot deck inspired by Golden Age horror comics. With only 100 decks available, this project blends the visual drama of 1950s pulp illustration with the psychological symbolism of the Rider–Waite–Smith system. The result is a collector’s dream for tarot readers who like their messages laced with menace and a touch of madness.

As a fan of the Golden Age horror era, as well as the proud owner of Ricardo Diseño‘s Horror Oracle, I was thrilled to see that this Horror Oracle Deck comes decorated with acid-bright color palettes and twisted comic panels, channeling the kinetic fear of mid-century horror zines. It’s a throwback to a time when a scream took up half a page and vampires wore high collars and red lipstick. But rather than parody, the deck treats the medium with reverence.

This is not Alexander’s first foray into pulp design, but it may be his most ambitious. He’s made it clear that the cards aren’t just homage, they’re part of a personal love letter to Golden Age comic book art.
As of this writing, the campaign is closing in on its funding goal with just days left to go. For those who live for the drama of the vintage macabre, this is a last call to grab something truly rare before it vanishes into the crypt of out-of-print decks.
