Alien Tarot: A Strange, Glowing Journey Through the Stars

I’ve been pulled lately by decks that sparkle with starstuff, that feel less terrestrial and more liminal. I had so much fun with the cheeky Cosmic C*unt Tarot by Samantha Rook and was excited to find Alien Tarot: A Strange, Glowing Journey Through the Stars by Constance Bankus on Kickstarter. It’s the kind of weird deck (in a good way) that invites dreamers, weirdos, survivors, anyone who’s ever wondered what parts of themselves still hesitate in the dark.

Constance describes the deck as a 78-card, full-color tarot with guidebook, built for folks who navigate shadow and light alike. The art glows: soft nebulae, alien landscapes, forms that feel seven parts mystery, one part revelation. It’s both cosmic and intimate, as though you’ve stepped into the void and found something alive there.

What stands out is how this deck leans into identity. The campaign calls its audience “weirdos, witches, and survivors.” That framing is rare. It doesn’t promise easy spiritual gloss. It promises resonance, that feeling when a card doesn’t just look beautiful but lands in your chest. It feels like someone saw you, or part of you in hiding, and painted it anyway.

I feel that the challenge of creating any non-traditional tarot deck is worldbuilding. You need to create a world where the major and minor archetypes make sense. Looking at the cards so far, I am feeling excited to discover this uncharted territory.

The guidebook promises to walk readers through not just meanings, but invitations—to feel, to reflect, to journal. Pull a card, pause, let its glow ripple out into your thoughts. What astral memory does it trigger? What questions does it ask you? How much of yourself is still orbiting in the unknown?

The campaign is somewhere around 40% funded with still three weeks to go. Stretch goals include upgraded production and additional creative rewards for backers. Constance offers the deck not as spectacle, but as something to hold, something to work with.

I’m really excited to see how Alien Tarot turns out. Support the project from $75 – Alien Tarot: A Strange, Glowing Journey Through the Stars by Constance Bankus.
