The Tarot of Crossed Destinies

I first wrote about Andrea Aste almost a year ago, when The Ghastly Lenormand breathed new life into Victorian mysticism and quietly reminded readers why historical interfaces between imagery and meaning still matter in contemporary decks. Later, in our creator’s spotlight, Andrea spoke about his fascination with European visual traditions and how they continue to shape his work. When I saw The Tarot of Crossed Destinies on Kickstarter, that thread, a reverence for lineage paired with reinterpretation, felt familiar, but fully realised in a new way.

Inspired Italo Calvino’s The Castle of Crossed Destinies, The Tarot of Crossed Destinies is a deck that leans into history without imitating it. Staying true to his style, Andrea’s aesthetic nods to the past, but here that sensibility is less nostalgic and more structural. Just imagine you’re visiting a castle of mystical origin where the rooms are constantly changing. Just looking through the cards, it really felt that I’m exploring the castle rather than just flipping cards from a deck.

Andrea has spoken before about his engagement with tarot and symbolic traditions. In our earlier interview, he described his approach as one rooted in historical consciousness but not bound by it. The Tarot of Crossed Destinies expands on that, pulling from familiar structures but weaving them into compositions that feel quietly distinct. Figures and symbols feel recognisable, yet they sit within arrangements that encourage you to slow down and look again.

If you’re familiar with Andrea’s work, you can also look forward to his amazing addons like this Explorer’s Valise, a map of the castle as well as an Explorer’s Journal.

For readers who loved The Ghastly Lenormand or who were intrigued by Andrea’s reflections in the creator spotlight, this project will feel like a natural next step.
