The Dreaming Eye Tarot caught my eye on Kickstarter almost immediately. Created by artist and mystic Lee Duncan, this 78-card deck was crafted entirely in charcoal, offering a tactile journey through a dreamlike blend traditional symbolism and ethereal artistry.
Departing from the vibrant hues commonly associated with tarot, The Dreaming Eye Tarot embraces the monochromatic depth of charcoal. I’ve previously explored decks with unconventional mediums like The Craft Felt Tarot Deck, and charcoal adds a distinct dimension that not only amplifies the deck’s dreamlike quality but invites readers to explore the subtleties of shadow work and personal reflection.
While rooted in the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith system, Duncan’s deck ventures into uncharted territories of symbolism. The cards are imbued with esoteric motifs, drawing from astrology, alchemy, myth and lots of eyes. I do love that the art encourages intuitive interpretation, allowing readers to forge personal connections with each card’s imagery.
