The Renowned Artists Tarot

I just learned about the work of Max Beckmann from Nick Jacobs’ The Departure Tarot and I am quite excited to see another art-inspired tarot deck on Kickstarter. The Renowned Artists Tarot takes the relationship of art and tarot to an entirely new level by celebrating the greatest artists in history through a 78-card deck infused with their distinct styles. Created by Samantha Perez, this deck is an ambitious and beautifully crafted tribute to visionary creators from across the ages, blending art history, divination, and creative inspiration into one unique project.

Imagine pulling The Magician and seeing the bold, fluid lines of Pablo Picasso, or drawing The Star illuminated by the celestial, dreamlike glow of Vincent van Gogh. The Renowned Artists Tarot transforms each card into a miniature masterpiece, capturing the essence of the tarot’s symbolic wisdom while paying homage to art’s greatest minds.

“This deck is about bridging the world of fine art with the spiritual and intuitive realm of tarot,” Samantha Perez shares. “I wanted each card to feel like it belonged in a gallery while still holding the deep, archetypal power of tarot.”

Each of the Major Arcana features an artist whose legacy reshaped the art world, while the Minor Arcana continues this artistic journey through varied movements and techniques. From the Renaissance masters to the bold abstractionists of the 20th century, this deck is as much an art lesson as it is a spiritual tool.

“We wanted the cards to feel authentic—as if the artists themselves had contributed to their design,” Samantha explains. “The research behind this deck was as intensive as the illustration process itself.”

Some featured artists and their tarot pairings include:

Leonardo da Vinci as The Emperor – A master of structure and balance, his influence remains foundational.
Frida Kahlo as The High Priestess – A symbol of intuition, resilience, and self-reflection.
Claude Monet as The Fool – Representing a dreamer stepping into the unknown, just as Impressionism once defied tradition.
Jackson Pollock as The Tower – Embodying the chaotic energy of destruction and rebirth.

The deck doesn’t just celebrate individual artists; it also highlights entire movements within the four suits of the Minor Arcana:

Cups (Romanticism & Expressionism) – Exploring deep emotions and fluidity.
Wands (Surrealism & Symbolism) – A tribute to imagination and subconscious storytelling.
Swords (Cubism & Modernism) – Focused on sharp intellect and abstraction.
Pentacles (Realism & Classicism) – Representing craftsmanship, tradition, and mastery.

Much like a trip to an art museum, each card encourages contemplation, analysis, and personal connection. What does The Star in the style of Van Gogh evoke in you? How does The Lovers through the eyes of Klimt change your perception of love and union?

The Renowned Artists Tarot is a must-have if you’re an art lover. The Kickstarter campaign starts from $55 for a deck.
